The Senate committee who summoned the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) to appear before it to explain his role in Abdulrasheed Maina’s reinstatement to civil service after been declared wanted for fraud.

Mr. Maina was declared wanted back in 2015 after disappearing with N2billion while heading the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, only to return and be double-promoted to the position of an acting director in Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Mr. Malami had been accused by the Head of Service and the Federal Civil Service Commission for approving the controversial reinstatement of Maina, which he (AGF) is been summoned to explain.

But unfortunately, the time for probing clashed with Senate plenary, which made Malami waited for panel members to arrive. The minister waited untill about 12:15pm when the he was led out and the door later looked.

The Senate ad hoc committee had summoned Minister of Justice after having a closed door meeting with officials of the Federal Civil Service Commission on Wednesday.

On his part, Malami had said he would not be tried in secret, saying he had been badly reported in the media and would only respond to Senate’s call if only he would be tried openly.
