Army Chief inaugurates projects in Ondo, resolves to provide support to personnel

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has stated his resolve to provide sound administrative support to personnel of the Nigerian army and their families.

Lagbaja, in a statement signed by Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, on Tuesday in Abuja, made the remark while inaugurating multiple infrastructural projects in 32 Artillery Brigade Headquarters in Akure, Ondo State.

The projects consisted of remodeled and renovated Headquarters of 32 Artillery Brigade office complex and the newly constructed official residence of the Brigade Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).

Also inaugurated was a remodeled and renovated Local Authority Primary School II, Oke-Bola, as special intervention Civil Military Cooperation Project in the community.

He assured that the army under his watch would continue to develop and improve on infrastructural facilities across formations, units and barracks to provide deserved incentives and succour to all personnel and their families.

Lagbaja enjoined the personnel to judiciously utilise and maintain the facilities, while urging them to remain loyal to the Constitution and government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Commander 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Muktar Adamu, said the office complex contained 32 offices, a conference room, operations room, canteen and library, while the RSM’s House is a three-bedroom bungalow.

Adamu thanked the COAS for his outstanding leadership and for providing befitting office accommodation for the Brigade.

He added that the projects would highly motivate the personnel to be more productive in ensuring peace and security in the Brigade’s area of responsibility.

At the inauguration of the civil-military project, the project executor, retired Maj.-Gen. Omotomilola Akintade, said the project comprised of four blocks of nine classrooms and a hall.

Others are Basketball Court with spectators’ pavilion, Five-Aside Football Pitch with two spectators’ pavilions, Sports Changing rooms, Lavatories, Borehole for water reticulation, Perimeter fence, electrification, solar lights and a play ground.

Akintade expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to give back to the society and also lauded the COAS for sponsoring the intervention project in his alma-mater.

 

He said that it would create a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning in the school.

He also urged the staff and pupils of the school to jealously guard and maintain the facilities.

Osun Poly Student, Olanrewaju Olatona killed by hit-and-run one-way driver

A Student Of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State, has died after being hit by a trailer driver on Monday, April 15.

The Accident was said to have occurred when the driver, who was reportedly driving against traffic, collided with the motorcycle conveying a student named Olanrewaju Olatona and another passenger along the Ikirun-Osogbo road area of the state.

Due to the severe impact, Olanrewaju Olatona, a National Diploma 2 student, suffered fatal injuries. He died at the scene.

 

Olatona, who was the Financial Secretary of the Department of Mass Communication, was preparing for the one-year Industrial Training programme.

The driver fled the scene after the accident and has not been apprehended.

Subsequently, Osun State Polytechnic students organised a procession in front of the school gate and blocked the expressway for several hours.

Unknown Gunmen Abduct Channelstv Reporter In Port-harcourt

Some unknown gunmen have kidnapped Joshua Rogers, the ChannelsTV reporter in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Politics Nigeria learnt that Rogers was picked up close to his residence at Rumuosi in Port Harcourt and to an unknown destination by the gunmen around 9pm on Thursday, April 11.

The reporter was driving his official ChannelsTV branded car when the hoodlums accosted, pointed a gun at him and took him away in the same vehicle.

 

Rogers was said to be returning from his official assignment in Government House after a trip to Andoni for a government event when the incident happened.

Already, the gunmen were said to have contacted his wife and demanded a N30million ransom for bis release.

His cameraman confirmed the incident and appealed to his abductors to set him free unconditionally.
