Nigeria’s Defence Minister Christopher Musa has promised strong security arrangements for the upcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled to hold from 27 to 28 March 2026.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the convention’s security sub-committee in Abuja on Friday, Musa said authorities were preparing a comprehensive security framework to protect thousands of delegates expected at the event.

The minister was recently appointed chairman of the 2026 APC National Convention Security Sub-Committee, a body responsible for coordinating safety measures during the gathering.

“For a party of the stature and national reach like the APC, the national convention will attract thousands of delegates, party leaders, government officials and observers from across the country and beyond,” Musa said.

He added that the committee would rely on its members’ experience across the security sector to ensure the event proceeds without disruption.

“With the wealth of experience represented in this committee, I am confident we will deliver a security framework that ensures a smooth and successful convention,” he said.

The ruling party’s convention is expected to draw top government officials and political leaders as the APC prepares for future political contests and internal party decisions.

Musa said the security plan would focus on prevention rather than reaction, stressing the importance of identifying potential threats before they escalate.

“The convention must reflect the highest standards of organisation and security befitting a ruling party and a responsible national political institution,” he said.

He added that early risk assessment and coordination among security agencies would form the backbone of the plan.

“Our approach must be preventive rather than reactive. Potential threats must be identified early and mitigated well ahead of the event,” Musa said.

Security agencies are expected to collaborate closely before and during the convention to ensure safe movement of delegates and maintain order throughout the two-day gathering in Abuja.

Political observers say the convention will be one of the most significant party events in Nigeria this year, with thousands of participants expected to attend from across the country.
