- Focus on STEM and Rural Education in State-Wide Hiring Drive
- Governor Abdulrazaq’s Commitment to Safer Schools Lauded by TESCOM
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teachers, 100 non-teaching staff, and 200 security guards to strengthen public education and enhance safety in senior secondary schools across the state.
The Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) announced that the hiring process will prioritize rural areas facing acute teacher shortages.
TESCOM Chairman Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, in a statement, said application links will be made available soon and outlined key criteria for applicants.
“All applications will be submitted online. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in education or a related subject with teaching certification, such as B.Ed, B.Sc. Ed, B.A. Ed, or NCE. Those without the listed qualifications will not be invited for the test,” Abubakar emphasized.
He added that the recruitment aims to fill critical human resource gaps, particularly in rural areas. Teachers specializing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects will be prioritized, alongside specified roles in Arts and Commercial studies.
Abubakar also noted that applicants must meet residency requirements, including providing a local government certificate and proof of residence at various stages of the process.
The recruitment exercise will include rigorous assessments:
- A Computer-Based Test (CBT) to determine eligibility, with cutoff marks to be announced later.
- Shortlisted candidates will then proceed to interviews and teaching practicums.
- Drug tests will also be conducted for all shortlisted applicants as part of the government’s effort to combat drug abuse and protect students.
Candidates must be under 35 years of age as of January 31, 2025, and display professionalism throughout the process.
Abubakar commended Governor Abdulrazaq’s unwavering commitment to education reform. “His administration’s investment and policy direction since 2019 reflect a deep dedication to improving public sector education in Kwara,” he said.
