Controversial media personality Kemi Olunloyo has publicly renounced her family name and severed ties with the family of her late father, Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State.
Dr Olunloyo, a respected mathematician and politician, passed away on Sunday, April 6, at the age of 89.
In a series of emotional videos and posts on her Facebook and TikTok pages, Kemi Olunloyo declared that she no longer identifies with the Olunloyo family and would not accept condolences over her father’s passing.
“I am not part of the Olunloyo family anymore,” she said, adding, “I will never return to Nigeria even if my parents died.”
While noting that she has forgiven her father, Olunloyo alleged that he led a double life—portraying a respected public image while being emotionally and physically abusive within the family.
“My father destroyed our family unit… He marketed me as his favourite daughter to the world, but I was far from it,” she said. “He used me and took advantage of my positive energies.”
Olunloyo further claimed that her father was deeply involved in occult practices until he became born-again later in life, reportedly after she confronted him on his 80th birthday.
She also blamed deep family divisions on her father’s relationship with his second wife, Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo (formerly Ronke Sonaike), whom he met during his 1983 campaign. The union, according to her, deeply affected her mother and worsened tensions within the household.
“My mother married an intellectual, a man who got his Ph.D. at 26, and he turned into a polygamist,” she said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Olunloyo family has not issued any public statement in response to her allegations.
