The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is once again engulfed in internal turmoil following the controversial endorsement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s return as National Secretary by the party’s reconciliation committee led by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

What was intended as a peace-building gesture ahead of the May 27 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has instead reignited tensions, with senior party stakeholders accusing Saraki of unilateral decision-making and disregarding party structures.

Governors from the South-East zone, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have all voiced anger over the move, especially as the party had previously nominated and ratified Setonji Koshoedo as Acting Secretary.

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, and several PDP governors are reported to be considering their continued commitment to the party if their decisions are ignored.

The South-East caucus insists on Sunday Udeh-Okoye as its candidate, warning that the party risks fracturing further if internal democracy is undermined.
