The quarter-final line-up for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 is now almost complete after Algeria booked their place with a dramatic win over DR Congo on Tuesday night.
Algeria edged past DR Congo 1–0 after extra time in Rabat, with substitute Anis Boulbina scoring in the 119th minute to decide the Round of 16 tie. The result sets up a heavyweight quarter-final against Nigeria.
Nigeria sealed their own place in the last eight a day earlier with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique. Victor Osimhen scored twice, leading a dominant display that confirmed the Super Eagles as one of the tournament’s standout sides so far.
With Algeria’s progress, seven of the eight quarter-finalists are now confirmed. Senegal, Mali, hosts Morocco, Cameroon and Egypt had already advanced before Tuesday’s fixtures.
Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire were the final team to qualify, following a 3–0 win over Burkina Faso in Marrakesh. Goals from Amad Diallo (20’), Yan Diomandé (32’) and Bamba Touré (87’) sealed a controlled performance by the Elephants.
Côte d’Ivoire will now face Egypt in one of the most anticipated quarter-final ties as they continue their bid to retain the title.
The confirmed teams in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals are Senegal, Mali, Morocco, Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
The quarter-final fixtures will be played across Friday, 9 January, and Saturday, 10 January, with matches scheduled in Tangier, Rabat, Agadir and Marrakesh.
Organisers expect packed stadiums as several former champions prepare for decisive knockout clashes, with Nigeria’s meeting against Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire’s tie with Egypt seen as potential early finals.
