Dangote Refinery Exports First PMS Shipment to Cameroon

Date:

  • Milestone Marks New Era in African Energy Independence and Regional Trade

Dangote Refinery, the largest oil refinery in Africa, has marked a historic milestone with the successful export of its first shipment of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to Cameroon. This achievement was made possible through a strategic partnership with Neptune Oil, a leading energy company in Cameroon, as confirmed by Nairametrics.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group, described the development as a pivotal moment for the continent, emphasizing the broader vision for African self-reliance:

“This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people.”

Antoine Ndzengue, Director and Owner of Neptune Oil, highlighted the transformative nature of the collaboration for Cameroon:

“This partnership with Dangote Refinery marks a turning point for Cameroon. By becoming the first importer of petroleum products from this world-class refinery, we are bolstering our country’s energy security and supporting local economic development. This initial supply, executed without international intermediaries, reflects our commitment to serving our markets independently and efficiently.”

Significance of the First Export

For Dangote Refinery:

The transaction underscores the refinery’s growing capacity to meet domestic and regional energy demands. With a massive processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, Nigeria, is the largest single-train refinery in the world. The export solidifies its position as a major player in redefining Africa’s energy landscape.

For Cameroon:

The partnership reduces reliance on international intermediaries, bolstering energy security while supporting local economic growth. By sourcing high-quality PMS directly from Dangote Refinery, Cameroon achieves a new level of energy independence.

Beyond this initial shipment, both companies aim to establish a sustainable supply chain designed to stabilize fuel prices, foster economic opportunities, and strengthen regional trade.

A Future for Intra-African Trade

This collaboration not only highlights the potential of intra-African trade but also paves the way for future partnerships that leverage Africa’s resources for the collective benefit of its people. It signifies a step forward in creating a unified, energy-independent Africa.
