Nigerian music star Davido has again missed out on winning a Grammy Award, extending his run of nominations without a win to five.
At the 68th Grammy Awards held on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for With You, featuring Omah Lay. The award went to South African singer Tyla for her song PUSH 2 START.
The category featured strong competition from across the continent. Other nominees included Love by Burna Boy, Gimme Dat by Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid, and Hope & Love by Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
The Grammy Awards, organised by the Recording Academy, recognised artists across nearly 100 categories, covering genres from pop and rap to global music. The ceremony was hosted by Trevor Noah and aired on CBS and Paramount+. Performances on the night included sets from Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga.
Davido’s latest loss adds to a pattern of near misses at the awards. At the 66th Grammys in 2024, he received three nominations but won none. His album Timeless lost in the Best Global Music Album category, while Unavailable featuring Musa Keys and Feel both failed to secure awards in their respective categories.
In 2025, Davido returned to the Grammys with Sensational, a collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay. The song was nominated for Best African Music Performance but lost to Love Me JeJe by Nigerian singer Tems.
Despite the setbacks, Davido remains one of Africa’s most recognised music exports. His repeated nominations reflect the growing global attention on African music, even as competition in the category continues to intensify.
The Best African Music Performance category, introduced to spotlight artists from the continent, has become one of the most closely watched at the Grammys, with winners from Nigeria, South Africa and other African countries in recent years.
