Doyin Okupe Speaks On Power-Sharing, Tinubu’s Potential for a Second Term

Date:

Doyin Okupe, former director-general of the Obi/Datti presidential campaign, emphasized an existing power-sharing agreement in Nigeria, where the presidency alternates between the north and south for eight-year terms.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Okupe noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari served for eight years and that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is now positioned to do the same.

Okupe expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, stating that if Tinubu can address the pressing issues of fuel and food crises, he would be well-positioned for a second term in 2027.

“If Tinubu effectively tackles these national challenges, Nigerians will likely support him for another term,” Okupe said, adding that Nigerians “are reasonable and don’t demand excessively from their leaders.”

He further explained that Tinubu understands that his future political prospects depend on his performance. Okupe remarked, “If Bola Tinubu continues to make progress, he has a strong chance for a second term.”

He reiterated his belief that the current administration’s success could stabilize the country, contrasting Tinubu’s achievements with what he described as Buhari’s “less successful” tenure.
