Following the agreement reached between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government on Friday to deliver promises made to the union since 2009, the lingering strike might just be over in few days.
Here are highlight of issues and conclusions reached between ASUU and the Federal Government:
1.The Federal Government has finally given attention to ASUU’s demands, as the union seems to be satisfied with the appealing proposals after the negotiation.
2.The government has honoured the 2009 agreement to release N220 billion for revitalization of federal universities across Nigeria, latest October 2017 .
3.The marathon meeting held since 2:30pm Thursday till Friday 2:15 in the morning, had in attendance government representatives, led by Education Minister, Adamu Adamu; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige and ASSU, led by its president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi
4.ASUU president said government proposals would be taken to the National Executive Committee for consideration and would give the government a feedback.
5.The delibration and feedback would be done in the next 7 days
6.ASUU members have started collecting their earned allowances under Buhai-led government, owned by past administration that ought be have been paid started from 2014.
6.Ngige talked about setting up the National Universities Pension Commission.
- Apart from the 2009 agreement, the FG had also made a 2013 Memorandum of understanding with universities teachers, all of which the meeting dealt with.
8.ASSU also want the FG to address issue of TSA ( Treasury Single Account) in the state universities.
