The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, in connection with multiple cyberstalking allegations.
Speaking to BBC News Pidgin on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the arrest followed several petitions submitted to the agency by concerned individuals.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale stated. He further explained that the agency would release the influencer once he meets his bail conditions and that the case would be charged to court promptly.
When asked if the matter was linked to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Oyewale clarified that the petitions were from multiple individuals and not a single institution. “We owe the petitioners a duty of protection,” he added.
The EFCC also confirmed that plans are underway to arraign the activist in court.
