Eko Disco disconnects UNILAG electricity over ₦‎1bn unpaid debts

Eko Electricity Distribution Company has said the power supply to the University of Lagos, Akoka was disconnected due to over N1 billion in unpaid electricity bills.

The company made this clarification in a statement on Thursday by its spokesperson, Babatunde Lasaki.

According to the firm, UNILAG partly paid N180 million out of an outstanding N1.035 billion.

“Small fraction of the outstanding debt owed by the university, which significantly exceeds the amount paid and currently stands at over N1 billion naira. (#1,035,197,446.43)”, the disco stated.

This comes after UNILAG was disconnected from the power grid on Tuesday after several disconnection notices and with the university’s management.

The development had thrown one of the country’s premier Universities into darkness for days.
