Nigerian cinemas have achieved an unprecedented milestone, with ticket sales soaring to ₦1.02 billion between December 20 and 26, 2024. The record-breaking week was driven by the phenomenal performance of Funke Akindele’s movies, Everybody Loves Jenifa and Alakada! Bad and Boujee.

According to data from Nile Media Entertainment Group, Everybody Loves Jenifa emerged as the standout performer, raking in ₦426.9 million in just seven days. The film has shattered multiple records, including becoming the first Nollywood movie to gross over ₦100 million in a single day. With total ticket sales of 153,800 and earnings of ₦782.8 million in just 14 days, it is on track to surpass ₦1 billion faster than Akindele’s previous blockbuster, A Tribe Called Judah, which reached the milestone in 21 days.

December 26 alone accounted for ₦256.4 million in ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing day in Nigerian box office history. Over 47,500 tickets were sold that day, with Everybody Loves Jenifa leading the charge. Other top performers during the week included Mufasa (₦173 million), Alakada: B&B (₦127.3 million), The Waiter (₦104.2 million), and Moana 2 (₦52.7 million).

Internationally, Everybody Loves Jenifa also made waves, earning $100,000 during its opening weekend across nine territories, including the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia.

Nile Media praised the milestone, stating, “This achievement reflects the passion, creativity, and resilience of the Nigerian film industry. It proves that our stories resonate with audiences and underscores the limitless potential of Nollywood.”

With this historic week, Funke Akindele and the Nigerian film industry have set a new benchmark, demonstrating the global appeal and growing strength of Nollywood.
