The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, on Thursday signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, valued at over ₦1.558 trillion, into law. The budget, dubbed the “Budget of Hope for Food Security and Sustainability,” aims to address critical issues such as agricultural productivity and economic resilience in the state.
The signing followed hours after the State Assembly passed the bill into law.
Unprecedented Legislative Action
Governor Bago lauded the 10th State Assembly for its expeditious scrutiny and passage of the budget, describing it as a groundbreaking effort. He noted that this collaboration reflects a model of legislative-executive synergy for other states to emulate.
“Let me commend the legislators for their speedy passage of the 2025 Appropriation Bill. This is unprecedented. I reaffirm my commitment to strengthening the existing synergy between government arms and encourage the Assembly to exercise oversight for budget compliance,” Bago stated.
Speaker’s Commendation and Assurance
The Speaker of the State Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, highlighted the Assembly’s readiness, noting that budget screening began three months ago. He credited the swift passage to the diligence of Mustapha Ndajiwo, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, whose efforts ensured that all processes were followed meticulously.
“The exceptional performance of the Commissioner facilitated our work. The Assembly remains focused on ensuring that resources are judiciously allocated,” Sarkin-Daji said, praising Governor Bago for his leadership and support.
The Speaker further assured that the Assembly would deepen its relationship with the executive arm to achieve the administration’s vision of a “New Niger.”
A Budget of Hope
First presented on December 12, 2024, the budget emphasizes food security, economic sustainability, and inclusive development. It seeks to strengthen agricultural initiatives and foster growth across critical sectors, aligning with the administration’s overarching goal to enhance the livelihoods of Niger State residents.
With the budget now signed into law, the government is set to implement strategies aimed at achieving its objectives for 2025.
