As promised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has made a statement concerning the controversial situation posed by the death of the APC Kogi gubernatorial candidate, Abubakar Audu.
INEC asks the All Progressives Congress to replace Audu with another candidate so as to fill the vacuum and continue with the supplementary election.
INEC had earlier said through its Director of Education that the commission has 14 day as stipulated by the constitution to arrange a supplementary election in the situation where election is declared inconclusive.
Audu, who is leading with highest votes in Saturday election, suddenly died on Sunday. Had he been declared winner before his death, his running mate would have been constitutionally empowered to become the governor, but unfortunately the election was inconclusive.
More votes were cancelled than the gap between Audu’s votes and votes of PDP’s Wada, who has the second highest.
INEC has announced December 5 for the supplementary election.
