Former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing the need for political realignment.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kwankwaso said his decision takes immediate effect and reflects changes in the country’s political landscape.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the NNPP with immediate effect,” he said.

The former presidential candidate described the move as difficult, noting his long-standing ties with the party.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, I have found it necessary to identify with another platform that offers the best opportunity to effect change,” he added.

Kwankwaso thanked the party leadership, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, and members across all levels for their support during his time in the NNPP.

He also acknowledged supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, saying they would continue to work together towards national development.

Although he did not confirm his next political move, sources indicate he is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Party officials reportedly plan to receive him formally, with key figures expected to be present at the event.

Kwankwaso’s exit marks a significant shift ahead of future elections, as political alignments continue to evolve across major parties.
