Education Trust Fund Amendment Bill Passes First Reading
The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to direct the Ministry of Tertiary Education to fast-track the provision of hostels and staff quarters at the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba satellite campuses of Kwara State University (KWASU) to enhance the learning environment.
The lawmakers also called on the university’s management to prioritize the procurement of academic equipment for the campuses to improve teaching and learning conditions for both staff and students.
These resolutions followed the adoption of a report from the House Committee on Tertiary Education after an oversight visit to the two satellite campuses. The Assembly also commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his continued commitment to developing the institutions.
Education Trust Fund Amendment Bill Scales First Reading
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Education Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, passed its first reading during Wednesday’s plenary. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the existing Education Trust Fund Law to enhance its effectiveness.
The motion for the bill’s first reading was raised by Deputy House Leader Hon. Abdulraheem Medina Motunrayo and seconded by Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq. Following this, the Clerk of the House was directed to circulate copies to members in preparation for the second reading, and the bill was referred to the Committee on Business and Rules for further legislative action.
