Northerners must quit Niger Delta before October 1– Militants

The alliance of groups of Niger Delta militants after meeting yesterday in Port Harcour, River State, has ordered all northerners to vacate their region.

The groups of the Niger Delta militants threatened to damage all oil wells belonging to northerners in theiir territories before October 1, 2017.

A militant group known as Coalition of Niger Delta Agitator also lamented reations of Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, Police Inspector General, Army and Department of State Services, saying they did not arrest those who issued quit notice for Igbo in the North.

This agitation has extensively created tension across different quarters and threatened the peace of the nation. This week Professor Osinbajo has met with leaders of the North and South-east seperately in efforts to put stop to the threat. He also gave stiff warning that government will punish those beating drumbeat of war of war in the country.

The meeting between Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators and youth leaders in Niger Delta region ended with militant leaders requesting prompt return to the Niger Delta people oil blocs owned by northerners.

Militant groups at the meeting who endorsed the statement includes Niger Delta Watchdogs, represented by Gen. John Duku; Niger Delta Volunteers, led by Gen. Osarolor Nedam; Niger Delta Peoples Fighters, led by Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete; Freedom Fighters led by Major-Gen. Asukwo Henshaw Bakassi and Niger Delta Movement for Justice led by Major-Gen. Ibinabo Horsfall.

Others are Major-Gen. Inibeghe Adams (Niger Delta Freedom Mandate); Major-Gen. Duke Emmanson (Niger Delta Fighters Network); and Major-Gen. Ibinabo Tariah (Niger Delta Development Network).

The militants said that all oil and gas companies owned and operated illegally by the northerners should quit operations of their oil well and blocs before October 1.

Their statements in part reads: “We stand to say that the meeting held by the Acting President and some northern elders and youths is not acceptable. It is a conspiracy.

“A well meaning government should not have been holding meeting and pleading for peace with those who are traitors. They should have been arrested. More like the government sees those from other zones as second-class citizens.

“Why is the Acting President treating them more important, and even Nigerian law giving the northerners preferential treatment? With keen interest, we are watching as the events unfolds.”

They also lashed out at Inspctor General of Police, Army and Department of State Service for refusing to arrest teh northern youths that have issue threatening statement to Igbos to vacate North.

They further state that they are ready to declare the Sovereign Republic of Niger Delta, come October 1, 2017; asking their loyalists to remain steadfast, focused and united.

They stressed that what really matters to them is the liberation of the people of Niger Delta from slavery of Nigeria.

Issuing warning notice to oil practitioners too, the militants said, “All oil and gas companies in our territory must shut down their operation. PENGASSAN and NUPENG are to warn their members not to risk their lives and vacate before October 1, 2017. Don’t be cut unaware.”

“All top officials in the oil and gas sector must be replaced with indegene of Niger Delta, including Group managing Director, board members. Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) headquaters and all offices must also be relocated Niger Delta region”, the militants said.

But the Acting President Osinbajo is billed to have joint meeing with both Northern Leaders and Igbo leaders next week in a bid to put an end to tention and aggitations in both communities and put rest in the mind of those resident in ‘another man’s’ land.

This was stated yesterday by Chief Nnia Nwodo, President general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who appealed to his kingsmen to be patience in the midst of the tention by the deadline, saying that Osinbajo had promised government intervention to be fair to all.
