The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has inaugurated its new executives as Rev Dr. Samson Supo Ayokunle and Rev Dr. Caleb Ahina occupy the offices of president and vice president respectively.
The result for the new executives was endorsed by the 11th National Assembly of CAN and they were inaugurated Thursday in Abuja.
Ayokunke, from Baptist denomination and also its President, is reelected CAN president for the second term.
During Ayokunle’s first tenure, Prof. Joseph Otubu, of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement, was his Vice President from July 2016 to 2019.
The statement from the association reads: “Behold the new leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). From left is the President, Rev Dr Samson ‘Supo Ayokunle and the Vice President, Rev Dr Caleb Ahima.
“Their inauguration took place Thursday in Abuja after the results of their election was endorsed by the 11th National Assembly of CAN.”
Founded in 1976, CAN originally only contained the Catholic Church and mainline Protestant groups. However, it later expanded to include Pentecostal churches as well.
