The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has vowed to investigate and take disciplinary action against its personnel who invaded the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) following a power disconnection at their base.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 6, when Air Force officers stormed the power company’s office after electricity was cut off at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos. The invasion led to destruction of property, assault on staff, and theft of company assets.

IKEDC spokesperson Kingsley Okotie condemned the attack, stating that personnel vandalized offices and brutalized employees. Speaking on the matter, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Ademuwagun, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, denounced the actions of the officers and assured that those responsible would face consequences.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation, and appropriate sanctions will be imposed. The Nigerian Air Force values the safety of all citizens, and Ikeja Electric should not operate under fear of harassment,” Ademuwagun said during a press briefing.

He described the invasion as regrettable and extended an apology to the management of Ikeja Electric. He reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to professionalism and discipline, stressing that the force would not tolerate any conduct that undermines its integrity.

“We have engaged in constructive dialogue with Ikeja Electric, and we will continue ensuring our personnel act within the bounds of discipline,” he added.

Kola Adesina, chairman of Ikeja Electric, detailed the damage caused by the invasion.

“About 200 staff members were present when the incident happened. Ten employees were assaulted, and several office assets were either destroyed or taken away,” he said. “It was a traumatic experience that disrupted our operations significantly. However, we appreciate the swift response from the Air Force leadership and trust that justice will be served.”

The incident has triggered public outcry, with demands for accountability and measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
