The Peoples Democratic Party yesterday condemned killings in Benue and other part of the country by herdsmen, saying the stance of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government so far has been pretentious.
Using strong worded terms, the opposition party said President Buhari has failed to keep his oath of protecting lives.
The statement jointly by PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus and Chairman PDP Governors Forum, Ayodele Fayose, said, “The President must take responsibility on the protection of lives and property of Nigerians which is the most important of his responsibilities.
“We believe that the Federal Government’s decision to set up a committee to address the issues of herdsmen killings is a pretentious approach to a matter that requires firm action and leadership by the President in line with his oath of office to protect all Nigerians, irrespective of creed, tribe and political affiliation.”
The party had its National Working Committee meeting with governors yesterday in Asaba, Delta State.
