DSS invasion: Saraki speaks how to overcome future occurrence

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said it is now time for the National Assembly to play its role by making sure the security operatives are not partial in the discharge of their duties.

Saraki said this in reaction to question asked by journalists during world press conference he held to address the invasion of the National Assembly by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday.

He said, “It’s at times like this that the National Assembly plays its role. We will continue to ensure that these security agencies are neutral and in cases where they going outside the rule of law and that they are called to order.

“The officers must be investigated to find out who authorized them to go. The Executive know what to do and did the right thing yesterday. Punitive measures will be taken to ensure that this does not occur again.”

Every entrance of the National Assembly blocked from 6:30am on Tuesday, which is allegedly connected to plot to impeach leaders of the National Assembly by pro-Buhari lawmakers.

The DSS Director-General was however sacked for deploying armed men to deny lawmakers and staff from gaining entrance, a decision beyond his power.
