Why INEC postponed election to February 23

The Presidential and National Assembly elections have been postponed to February 23, 2019 by the National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC today said the rescheduling decision was occasioned by need to make enough logistic and operational plans and “determination to conduct free, fair and credible election.”

Meanwhile, the governorship and state assembly elections will hold on March 9.

Briefing newsmen beginning from 2:43am, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu said “proceeding with the election as scheduled is no longer feasible.”
