The Nigerian Air Force has scored a significant victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency, following a wave of precision airstrikes that dismantled a major Boko Haram stronghold in Borno State.
According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the early morning operation on Friday was executed by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai. The air raids targeted fleeing insurgents in Bita, a notorious Boko Haram enclave in Nigeria’s North-East.
Describing the action as one of the most consequential in recent months, the NAF noted that dozens of terrorists were neutralised during the strike, which forms part of a wider strategy to cripple militant networks in the region.
“This operation represents a major tactical success,” the statement read. “Combat aircraft engaged the terrorists in a carefully coordinated mission, delivering precision strikes that eliminated significant numbers of the enemy and destroyed critical logistics nodes.”
Military sources revealed that the nighttime offensive was followed by a sweep from ground forces, who launched clearance and exploitation efforts to consolidate the aerial gains.
The Air Force stressed its continued commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its citizens. “Every effort is being made to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement or sanctuary anywhere within the country,” the statement added.
The development marks a pivotal moment in the campaign to restore lasting peace and stability across the North-East, where Boko Haram has waged a bloody insurgency for more than a decade.
