- State Secretariat and Environs Now Enjoy 24/7 Electricity
- Makinde’s Energy Vision Begins with Solar and Gas Integration
The Oyo State Government has announced the successful commencement of the 11 Megawatts Ibadan Hybrid Power Project, delivering uninterrupted electricity to the state’s Secretariat and surrounding areas.
Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, confirmed in a statement that this milestone fulfills Governor Seyi Makinde’s promise to move the state towards energy independence.
The hybrid project, inaugurated earlier this month by the governor, has ensured round-the-clock power for critical facilities, including all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the Secretariat Clinic, the State House of Assembly, and the Governor’s Office.
“The first phase of the project features a 5MW integrated power plant combining solar energy and natural gas,” Oyelade stated, adding that the initiative highlights the administration’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The commissioner also disclosed that the next phase of the project will expand the supply of uninterrupted electricity to essential government and public facilities. These include selected schools, Adeoyo and Ring Road Hospitals, the High Court complex, and Adamasingba Stadium.
Implemented under a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, the power project is a public-private partnership between the Oyo State Government’s Ministry of Energy and a private energy conglomerate.
Governor Makinde’s administration has prioritized energy reforms as part of its broader infrastructural development agenda, seeking to establish Oyo State as a trailblazer in renewable energy solutions and reliable power distribution.
This initiative represents a significant step toward achieving energy independence and boosting the efficiency of public services in the state.
