The Afe Babalola law firm in Ibadan has confirmed submitting a formal petition to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, calling for the removal of renowned lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, from Nigeria’s register of legal practitioners.

The petition accuses Farotimi of breaching several provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct governing legal practitioners in the country.

Anonymous Source Speaks

A lawyer from the firm, speaking on condition of anonymity, emphasized that the petition was not solely about one individual but about safeguarding the integrity of the legal profession.

“While I am not authorized to discuss the details, this petition reflects our collective duty to uphold the ethical standards that define our profession,” the source said.

He added, “When such conduct goes unchecked, it erodes public trust in the judiciary and the legal system. This matter is not just about Mr. Farotimi; it concerns the image of the entire legal profession. We must act decisively to prevent any compromise to our reputation.”

Broader Implications

The submission highlights the Nigerian legal profession’s commitment to ensuring accountability among its practitioners and maintaining public confidence in the justice system.

As the case progresses, it serves as a reminder of the legal community’s responsibility to enforce ethical compliance and uphold the rule of law in both individual conduct and the broader judicial framework.
