The Kano state chapter of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration to seek for re-election come 2019 is long-awaited.
The APC’s Deputy Chairman in the state, Alhaji Shehu Maigari, who stated this today in Kano, said Buhari’s declaration did not come as surprise to Kano APC, as according to him the party had since endorsed him for race when he paid a 2-day official visit to the state last year.
“The people of Kano have endorsed Buhari for the contest and since then we have been waiting for his formal declaration. We thanked God that the president has answered our call.”
Maigari explained that the high level of insecurity and corruption caused by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s 16 years of bad governance could only be addressed if sufficient time was given to Buhari to continue with his three agenda of economic development, anti-corruption crusade and addressing security challenges.
He said, “The power sector which hitherto converted into dollars siphoning channel by previous administrations can adequately utlise to improve our revenue generation if Buhari is given enough time to complete Mambila and other power projects that are under construction.”
Maigari added that Nigerian’s dream of becoming a self-dependent nation in terms of food production could only be realised if continuity in governance was allowed.
The deputy chairman therefore, appealed to the people of Kano and Nigerians in general to continue supporting Buhari-led administration beyond 2019, saying their support was important not only to the president, but to the entire nation.
