Sha’aba Lafiagi suffers defeat as his candidates lose at APC Congress
Senator Mohammed Sha’aba Lafiagi representing Kwara North district has suffered yet another political defeat as his hope was dashed at the just concluded Local Government Congress of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) held on Saturday in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of the Kwara State, FELLOW PRESS reports.
Findings revealed the outcome of the LG congress was an aftermath of the unfortunate incidence of November, 2017 when no fewer than three indigenes of Lafiagi were shot dead during a protest against the Senator.
A source who spoke to our correspondent noted that, “most of the candidates presented by the Senator at the recent APC congresses suffered colossal defeats.
“The control of Lafiagi Ward II was of particularly interest to the Senator because the Ward happens to be that of Alhaji Tajudeen Audu (Makama Lafiagi) whose recent entry into the political space is changing the political permutations in Kwara North.
“The Senator sponsored one Baba Sanusi against Mohammed Ndaaba, a popular candidate fielded by the Makama group and all efforts to impose Baba Sanusi against the wishes of the people failed woefully.”
The source who pleaded anonymity further said that, “As for the Local Government congress, the Senator sponsored a former Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar E. Sayyedi who was roundly rejected in favour of Mohammed Ndako, popularly know as captain Diko who did not feature in the initial permutations but was said to have been thrown up at the dying minutes by the Makama group.”
Unconfirmed reports however disclosed that Sha’aba Lafiagi, who is also a one time Executive Governor of the State during the aborted third republic is currently striving to succeed Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in 2019.
