Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogo West constituency has been officially written by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of receiving petition to recall him.
Remember that FELLOW PRESS reported that about 188,000 registered voters, forming 52.3 per cent, had made petition for Mr. Melaye’s removal from National Assembly and that the Returning Officer who collate the result had said INEC would take over from there.
The Thursday statement to Melaye clarified to Mr. Melaye therefore confirmed receptiom of the petition for his recall.
National Commissional of INEC, Mallam Haruna, who made the asserted the commission’s former acknowledgment of receiving the petitioners’ representatives as well as notifying Melaye of receipt of such petition.
But Melaye has berated that recall move, accusing the state governor, Yahaya Bello, as the brain behind his recall.
Despite the fact that both Melaye and Bello are fellow party members of All Progressives Congress (APC), they are always at loggerheads.
The Commission also promised to publish the breakdown of all signatories to Melaye’s recall on July 3, 2017 to verify if they are truly registered and eligible voters, as well as to release other details that day.
Kogi West Senatorial District would make history in Nigerian politics for being the first electorate to recall a senator, if eventually Melaye’s recall succeeds.
