Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has directed the immediate payment of March 2025 salaries for all civil servants, public servants, and pensioners in the state, including suspended political appointees of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This decision comes just a day after the Rivers chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) threatened mass protests over unpaid salaries of local government workers since February 2025.
During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, NLC Chairman Alex Agwanwor called on the state government to implement the minimum wage for local government workers, emphasizing that civil servants should not bear the brunt of the ongoing political crisis.
Following these concerns, Ibas, through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, instructed the Accountant-General to process and remit all outstanding payments without further delay.
The brief statement reassured residents that the administration remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to workers and pensioners across the state.
