Tinubu Confirms Rescue of Kwara Worshippers, Niger Students

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says all 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, have been rescued following days of what he described as coordinated security efforts across the country. He made the announcement in a statement on Sunday, noting that the recovery was part of ongoing operations targeting recent mass abductions.

Tinubu also confirmed that 51 of the missing students taken from the Catholic school in Niger State have been found. Although many others remain unaccounted for, he said security agencies are continuing their search and providing him with constant updates from the field.

The president explained that he cancelled his planned trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to oversee the response to both incidents. According to him, the priority is to stabilise the security situation and ensure progress in rescue operations.

Tinubu said he remains committed to improving safety nationwide. He noted that every Nigerian has the right to protection and that the government will maintain pressure on criminal networks responsible for the recent attacks.

“I will not relent,” he said in the statement. “Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”

Security agencies have yet to release full operational details of the rescues, but military and police units have been active in affected parts of Kwara and Niger states since the incidents were reported.

The attack on the school in Niger State led to the abduction of more than 300 pupils and staff, prompting the state government to order the closure of schools. The rescue of the Eruku worshippers followed days of searches in surrounding forests.

Authorities say operations will continue until all remaining victims are recovered.
