In a daring operation, troops of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have successfully repelled a deadly militia attack on Teegbe community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one attacker and arresting two others after a dramatic pursuit into neighboring Kaduna State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the incident via X (formerly Twitter), the troops responded swiftly to a distress call at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday when the assailants launched an attack on the rural community.
Upon engaging the attackers, the gunmen reportedly fled toward Baduru Sama in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna, prompting troops to launch a hot pursuit.
One suspect was neutralized during the chase, while further clearance operations led to the arrest of 40-year-old Sani Adamu and 20-year-old Buhari Mohammed, suspected members of a notorious local bandit group.
The troops also recovered 42 stolen cows and a sum of ₦20,200 found on the neutralized suspect. The military has confirmed that the arrested individuals and recovered items are in custody for further interrogation and investigation.
Unfortunately, two residents of Teegbe lost their lives in the attack, while another suffered gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
A soldier, Lance Corporal Tope Awoniyi, was also injured in the line of duty and is currently receiving care at the 3 Division Medical Services and Hospital.
Military authorities say clearance operations are ongoing to track down remaining assailants and restore calm in the area.
