The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is calling for an investigation into the reported terrorist attack on its presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa.

The call is contained in a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba in Abuja.

Ologunagba said that the PDP was alarmed by the reported foiled terrorist attack on Abubakar, who was its Presidential Candidate and other sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa.

He said that by the confession of the arrested assailants, the plot had the ”pawmarks of a sponsored attempt on the life of Abubakar”.

“Our party charges the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to take the lead provided by the confession of the assailants to track down their sponsors and bring them to book in the interest of the security, unity and wellbeing of our nation.

“We also urge the Federal Government to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act and their sponsors are brought to book.

“This particular investigation is important to the country because of the scope and dimension of the attempted attack.”

Ologunagba called on security agencies to tighten security around Abubakar and members of his family at this critical time in Nigeria democratic process.

He commended the collaborative effort of the vigilant people of Yola and security agencies in foiling the attack.

Ologunagba urged Nigerians to remain calm as the authorities begin investigation to fish out those behind the evil plot.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police in Adamawa on Sunday arrested four people suspected to be members of the Boko Haram, over an alleged plot to attack Abubakar’s residence.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, command spokesperson confirmed this to newsmen on Monday in Yola.

He said one of the suspects was arrested by the security detail attached to Abubakar’s house while the other was picked up at a different location in the state capital.

”One of the suspects, a 29-year-old man, confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno.

”He was arrested at the gate of Abubakar’s residence while trying to carry out the attack at about 9 p.m. on Sunday.

”They said they were sent to study the house, institutions some sensitive places for an attack,” he said.

The suspects, Nguroje said, have been handed over to the military authorities for further action.

Wale Akinterinwa, a governorship hopeful on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), says he will turn Ondo into another Lagos, the country’s commercial capital, if elected governor.

The Ondo APC governorship primary election is scheduled for April 20 while the state-wide election will be held on November 16.

Speaking during his official declaration at the ruling party’s secretariat in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday, Akinterinwa said he will make Ondo an industrialised state.

The governorship hopeful who had worked in Lagos civil service, said he would utilise the natural resources in the state to attract investments.

“We will turn Ondo into another Lagos state in terms of development because we have what it takes, in terms of coast. We must ensure that the port comes alive and that will be a game changer,” Akinterinwa said.

“But, beyond that, we also have the landmass and ought to be an agrarian state. So, we are going to take agriculture to the next level while we encourage and support the local farmers.

“We will also attract investors who will invest in agriculture so that we will be exporting finished products. We will not just be producing for the table but we will be producing for export.”

On security, Akinterinwa said his economic initiatives would get most youth employed and lead to reduction in the rate of insecurity in the state.

“For security, part of our challenges today is because today is because we have many unemployed youths. So, Amotekun founded by our late governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and other South West governors will be strengthened so that with appropriate security in place, we can have development,” he said.
