Fire guts storey-building in Ibadan, destroys valuable property

Fire engulfed a one-storey building consisting of 12 rooms and six shops on Wednesday, destroying valuable property at Bolumole in the Oyinloye street area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The fire started from one of the upper rooms of the building around 11:45 a.m before spreading to other rooms.

Six out of the 12 rooms of the building were completely destroyed by the raging fire.

The building’s landlord, Mr Adefila Sakariya, said he could not ascertain the cause of the fire and that everybody in the house had gone out before the incident happened.

He said the fire destroyed all the property in six rooms of the building, including the tailoring equipment of his daughter who would be doing her freedom celebration on Sunday.

“The NYSC discharge certificate of one of the tenants in the building was among the property destroyed by the fire and government and other well-meaning Nigerians need to come to his assistance,” Sakariya said.

Officials of the Federal and Oyo State Fire Services were on ground to quench the fire.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orita-Challenge Police Station, Mrs Maiyaki Joyce, and her men were also on ground to maintain law and order.

Speaking to NAN, an official of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Amao Simon, said firemen swung into action as soon as they got the distressed call.

Simon said that the property in six of the rooms were completely burnt by the fire.

 

He said they have been able to quench the fire and everything have been put under control.

Osun Poly Student, Olanrewaju Olatona killed by hit-and-run one-way driver

A Student Of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State, has died after being hit by a trailer driver on Monday, April 15.

The Accident was said to have occurred when the driver, who was reportedly driving against traffic, collided with the motorcycle conveying a student named Olanrewaju Olatona and another passenger along the Ikirun-Osogbo road area of the state.

Due to the severe impact, Olanrewaju Olatona, a National Diploma 2 student, suffered fatal injuries. He died at the scene.

 

Olatona, who was the Financial Secretary of the Department of Mass Communication, was preparing for the one-year Industrial Training programme.

The driver fled the scene after the accident and has not been apprehended.

Subsequently, Osun State Polytechnic students organised a procession in front of the school gate and blocked the expressway for several hours.

Unknown Gunmen Abduct Channelstv Reporter In Port-harcourt

Some unknown gunmen have kidnapped Joshua Rogers, the ChannelsTV reporter in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Politics Nigeria learnt that Rogers was picked up close to his residence at Rumuosi in Port Harcourt and to an unknown destination by the gunmen around 9pm on Thursday, April 11.

The reporter was driving his official ChannelsTV branded car when the hoodlums accosted, pointed a gun at him and took him away in the same vehicle.

 

Rogers was said to be returning from his official assignment in Government House after a trip to Andoni for a government event when the incident happened.

Already, the gunmen were said to have contacted his wife and demanded a N30million ransom for bis release.

His cameraman confirmed the incident and appealed to his abductors to set him free unconditionally.
